Dating back over 5000 years, Ayurveda or Ayurvedic Medicine is recognised by the World Health Organisation as the world’s oldest continuous system of natural health care.
‘Veda’, means pure knowledge or science, and ‘Ayus’ means life or lifespan. Thus, Ayurveda is understood as ‘a complete knowledge or science of life’.
Based on knowledge of the fundamental or primordial ‘laws of nature’, Ayurveda is all about connecting the infinite intelligence that governs our mind and body with the limitless intelligence that governs the entire universe.
Those that follow Ayurveda see the human being as an intimately connected part of nature. I.e. that we are deeply connected to the world around us.
We are comprised of the same basic elements – air, space, fire, water and earth – and when we understand how to balance these core elements through the Ayurvedic doshas, we gain greater control over our mind, body, health and happiness.
With its extensive knowledge about consciousness, body types, nutrition, herbs, and daily and seasonal routines, as well as its powerful purification and rejuvenation therapy known as panchakarma, Ayurveda helps us live life in harmony with nature’s flow. When we are in harmony and flow with Mother Nature’s eternal laws of life, we then open up the possibility of enjoying not only exceptional health but spiritual growth, higher states of awareness, and potential even enlightenment.
