If you haven't tried our Green Dal recipe yet,  the time is now! If you are looking for a quick, easy but also delicious meal, the Green Dal is exactly what you need.






  • 1 cup whole green mung dal
  • 4 cups water
  • 1 tomato (diced, skin and seeds removed)
  • 1/2 tsp ginger (diced)
  • 1/2 tsp black mustard seed
  • 1/2 tsp cumin seeds
  • 1 tbsp ghee
  • 2 stems coriander leaf (chopped)
  • 1/2 tsp turmeric powder
  • Salt & black pepper





  • Soak dal overnight or for at least a few hours.
  • Wash and drain dal and add to a saucepan with fresh water.
  • Bring green dal to a boil, and then reduce to a simmer over medium heat until medium soft.
  • Add tomato, ginger, turmeric, salt & black pepper and continue to simmer. Watch water level, if it begins to look too dry then add more water.
  • Heat the ghee in a small pan over medium heat. Add black mustard seeds and saute until they begin to pop, and then add cumin seed, saute until light brown and aromatic.
  • Add this mixture to the green dal, stirring constantly, cover and continue to cook until dal is soft.
  • Serve with fresh coriander on top.
